Review of the book "Untold" (The New Orleans 9th Ward you never knew)

This book takes the reader through in-depth personal stories of heartache and perseverance during the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Lynette Wilkerson interviews people who went through tremendous struggle in the midst of the natural disaster. This book introduces you to 16 people who had strong ties to the living in the Ninth Ward. The ages and experiences span through many generations. The stories are about hardworking and supportive families who's lives were immediately altered through the affects of hurricane Katrina. Flood water crashed through tight communities, in which people had no way to escape. I highly recommend this book, which gives a view into the lives of people that the news coverage did not show.

Many people were affected, such as the famous Fats Domino, who is mentioned as one of the survivors. This book is about personal stories of overcoming difficult situations, and shows the deep ties people had to the 9th Ward. This book was the inspiration of a National Geographic Documentary, which covered natural disasters. Taking all the elements of this book into consideration, there is no question this book touched on the heart of the voices of the community and gave inspiration for others going through similar disasters.
